Hello, I have a sony ericsson w350i and a hp pavillion ze 2108ea with Ubuntu 8.10. I experience the same problem. If I connect my phone it does recognize it as a mobile broadand device, but it does not mount it to show the files that are on the phone. So I'm affraid it's not an coocked usb port. Somehow the memory stick is not mounted.
I tried the above and nothing worked for me either. I'll keep trying and if I find a solution I will post it here.
