In KDE 4 (Kubuntu 8.10) the Network Manager Applet is used to edit connections. In a Virtual Box I was able to disable the wireless connection and verified with ifconfig. Reading bug 229366, things have changed significantly since then. If you still experience problems with the latest version, please provide detailed step by step instructions to reproduce and related version numbers. You may also want to have a look at the KDE Bug Tracking System. To reopen the bug report you can click on the current status, under the Status column, and change the Status back to "New".
