I resolved the problem and found the bug was related to the binary nvidia driver.
1. I removed the nvidia driver. No crash. 2. I reinstalled the nivida driver again. Crash. 3. I removed the nvidia driver and then installed the last available (180.29) on nvidia.com. No crash. So the fix should be available in the next Ubuntu release if it includes the driver version 180.29. Unfortunately, I cannot test the development release because the bug is random and may take some days before a first crash occurs.
