Ok, Just finished up testing. It is, indeed, still an issue!

It's the same symptoms:

start the client and the screen first boots at 1024x768

open System > Preferences > Display Settings

In there, "Mirror Screens" is enabled.

In order to get a larger resolution on the client, I have to do the
following:

uncheck "Mirror Screens'
Select "Laptop" monitor output and manually shut it off in with the radio button
Select the working monitor and manually change the resolution with the 
drop-down menu.
click "apply", and the monitor is set to the proper resolution.
