When I download using Firefox, after it has downloaded and I got to the downloads panel and double click to open the file it asks me for the application to poen this kind of file with. I do not know where to go or what to do about this. However if I look at the actual downloaded file on my Desktop and double click it seems to be able to find the correct app. . This seems to happen with .doc files, and .pdf files I haven't checked for jpg files. This under Ubuntu 8. 10 and Firefox 3.0.6. I would like to know how I direct the request for the app within Ubuntu as this might not be Firefox related. E.g. If it is a doc file the I'd like to be able to find the Openoffice prgm file to open it with. I am a newby and this is probably a simple task but not for someone just coming from winXP . Is there a inf file somewhere that ties all the file types with applicable programs that can be accessed and edited as needed. I am concerned that if misdirect Firefox to use an incorrect app then I m ay be stuck in this mess for an eternity. ( Some where in this thread I found a similar bug ??. Thank you for all the "real" Ubunutu users who can and do offer help . ron
