Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

gnome-screensaver set to lock on inactivity

if left for some time (>10 minutes?), move mouse or press keys: no login box
presented
go to a tty (e.g. Alt-Ctrl f2), as root kill the current screensaver
return to X (Alt-Ctrl f7), move mouse or press keys: login box presented
provide password, press OK
login box disappears, screensaver continues to run

Only fix seems to be to kill gnome-screensaver via tty

upgraded from 8.10 direct to alpha 5
