** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

Using intrepid 32bit, with latest updates.

When I try to switch user, or start a guest session, screen locks, but
nothing else happens, and I am just stuck at the locked screen. I unlock
it and see a "cannot start new display" error.

I tried running gdmflexiserver with -d option to see what happens... but
  that's not too helpful:

  gdmflexiserver[998]: DEBUG: Sending command: 'VERSION'
gdmflexiserver[998]: DEBUG: Got response: 'GDM 2.20.8'
  gdmflexiserver[998]: DEBUG: Sending command: 'AUTH_LOCAL
e8d364c4fa93aea39a02c39a53983c61'
  gdmflexiserver[998]: DEBUG: Got response: 'OK'
  gdmflexiserver[998]: DEBUG: Sending command: 'AUTH_LOCAL
e8d364c4fa93aea39a02c39a53983c61'
  gdmflexiserver[998]: DEBUG: Got response: 'OK'
gdmflexiserver[998]: DEBUG: Sending command: 'FLEXI_XSERVER_USER :guest'

didn't see anything that looked suspicious in xorg.0.log either, but
  maybe i didn't look well :)

Please let me know if there's any other info I can enclose that may be
  helpful...
