navsnipe, I am interested with the solution how you fixed it. Could you point where that thread was? I paste the "all_generic_ide" at the last kerner line at the /boot/grub/menu.lst then reboot. Then I tried the cdtray closes after I opened it. Martin's solution was good but you have to type the command at the console always. Like to see how the menu.lst was modified.
