When gnome-panel is removed everything exept the gnome-panel works. metacity --version metacity 2.25.144 gnome-panel 1.2.25.92 Description: Ubuntu jaunty (development branch) Release: 9.04 + + Solved by deleting /home/user/.gconf/apps/panel + dpkg-reconfigure + gnome-panel(maybe not necessary)
