Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-codec-install

Hi. The new gnome-codec-install started using the • character in the
msgid. Unfortunately gettext still doesn't seem to work with that...
There was an earlier similar problem that was fixed in gnome-app-install
0.5.2.5-0ubuntu1 by reverting to *.

I was about to file a bug to upstream gettext project, but it seems the
bug is limited to Python. When doing a similar thing in a C program (I
used gcalctool), the problem does not exist. It might be that Python 3.0
would solve this also with all its other UTF-8 work.

Anyway, in practice this means that translations are not shown for
msgid:s that use non-ascii characters.

I agree that the • character would look much better in the English text
than the old asterisk.

** Affects: gnome-codec-install (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
