Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. What you means by "the system crash", is there an error message? That said, I think I remember having heard of something similar (some years ago). LPT1 does not broadcast any message (as far as I know) when you plug something on it. And there is no easy way to identify the peripheral like on the PCI BUS. So, *I think* when you configure an LPT1 the system add a new kernel module in /etc/modules. And that modules must poll the printer to find it. Badly design modules can wait endlessly until it found it.
Could you attach the result of "sudo cat /etc/modules" run in a terminal window to this bug please? Or at least tell us the mark and model of the printer you added. ** Changed in: cups (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- ubuntu 8.10 if install a LPT! printer and you restart the sistem this crash if the printer is off https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/298844 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
