thanks for this bugreport, unfortunately I was not subscribed to this bugreport 
so I did not notice your issue.

For me this is a documentation issue, this 
   hugday current --remember
is essential if you would like to run `hugday list` or `hugday close`without 
the `--day` option

So it is either
   hugday current --remember
   hugday list
   hugday close 123456
   hugday close 2345 3456
   [....]
or
   hugday list --day 20080101
   hugday close 123456 --day 20080101
   hugday close 2345 3456 --day 20080101
   [....]

I personally do not like the idea of a fallback which is automatically
running `hugday current` if the hugday tools does not know about a date
because this operation is expensive and might slow things down.

Does this make sense?
