Hmmm, its very odd that resume works with resume=/dev/foo and not with
the configured UUID file.  Can you describe what you see when it fails,
it might be worth turning off usplash and quiet, and allowing this to
fail, particularly do you see "Waiting for resume device" messages.
Could you try testing this with resume=UUID=foo (matching the file) and
see if that works from grub (I don't think it will).

Finally could you attach the full output of the command below:

    zcat /boot/initrd.img-2.6.28-11-lpia | cpio -it
