You don't need the mouse to work on a console. Use the keyboard there...

Well, all I am interested is to see if your kernel/hardware sees the mouse, 
something like:
usb 1-1: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
usbcore: registered new interface driver hiddev
input: Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse as 
/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb1/1-1/1-1:1.0/input/input13
input,hidraw0: USB HID v1.10 Mouse [Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse] on 
usb-0000:00:1d.0-1
usbcore: registered new interface driver usbhid
usbhid: v2.6:USB HID core driver

Than I know where to look next...
