Public bug reported:

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with Kubuntu 8.10 installed, as well
as preinstalled Windows Vista. It works normally with Vista, but with
Ubuntu it freezes after a random period of time. Screen becomes
distorted and blinks, mouse cursor is moving but then disappears
completely, no sound, no ping replies, keyboard does not work. You have
to hold down the power button and reboot, there is nothing else you can
do. It freezes both in Gnome and KDE, and both with Nvidia 177 and
Nvidia 180 drivers.

System config:

Intel Core Duo T7300 2GHz
1Gb RAM
GeForce 8600M GT

Nvidia 180.11 driver
Kubuntu 8.10 with all latest updates, KDE4.2.1, Gnome 2.24.

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
