Yes removing .openoff* does cure the 'open exisiting files' of course - if 
there is no way for remote stuff to get back in there then I guess it would be 
OK - although I guess there are loads of people who are still going to get this 
on upgrades.
I guess it might still happen on documents that were accessed from network 
shares - I'm not sure it's a good idea for OOo to be opening a list of files in 
a blocking manner that might be on a removed device or a down NFS server.

The 'from template' isn't too bad - but still it takes a couple of
seconds on first startup and feels quite sluggish - but then speeds up.
