Copying a file to any destination except an smb share preserves the file modification dates. Files copied to an smb share (whether copied through Nautilus or command line) have the date and time at which the copy was performed. The --preserve option in cp has no effect. Copying to NTFS, ext3, FAT and usb-attached storage always preserves the date, copying from smb preserves the date, just writing to smb is faulty. This applies to Ubuntu 8.10 with all updates applied at the date of writing. This bug is a real downer when trying to share a set of resources in a single smb directory because Ubuntu writes an incorrect (more recent) file modification date. Windows and Mac systems on the same network preserve the original file modification date when copying to smb. -- Nautilus STILL not preserving timestamps https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315552 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
