To uncheck this option I had to install the configuration application: apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
The config application then appears in preferences. It is in the 'utility' section, click on workarounds. (It is not intuitive it opens another box to be more selective.) -- When in fulllscreen mode, impossible to close/minimize fullscreen and so forth.
