Public bug reported: After installing Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04alpha in my laptop, I use it for some days for every kind of use (internet, programming, multimedia, etc).
Some time after that, say one week (but can also be a couple of days), the system suddenly crashes. I get I/O errors and I have to reboot. Then, it says that I have no OS installed. If I wait a couple of hours and retry, the system boots normally. This cycle repeats until I see the root filesystem really crashed, for example, executing `ls -l /var/log` I get several "??????" in the place of the file access modes. I tried reinstalling the whole system several times, using ext3/ext4 filesystem. My data partition was never affected. I suspect of something related to temperature, but the cooler seems to work fine (at least with 9.04). The bug does not happen with Ubuntu 8.04 (which I'm using right now).
