I am testing the Xubuntu Jaunty Beta now and the above issue appears to have been resolved, so that's the good news!
However, I'm having ongoing problems with the Intel graphic driver. XFCE comes up only if "Safe Graphics Mode" is selected, i.e. the vesa driver. Otherwise the machine hangs at the end of the boot process with a blank screen and I have no (Ctrl-Alt-F1) access to console so it's hard to debug. One attempted hack:- 1) Start the live CD in Safe Graphics mode. 2) Change vesa driver to i810 in xorg.conf 3) Logout of X 4) startx from console In this case, startx fails with "No Devices Detected" in Xorg.0.log, seemingly unable to to find a screen. I'm not sure this is a valid test method. Any advice would be appreciated.
