Jon, I notice you've now tagged this with "packaging", which I think is correct. (The program itself installed and worked fine on Intrepid.)
The dependencies reported by Synaptic include removing xserver-xorg and replacing it with xserver-xorg-core, which apparently isn't happening. Possibly a matter of exact version numbers, as xserver-xorg-core appears to be in the repository (and indeed installed already). I also notice that the version provided is xserver-xorg- aiptek1:1.1.1-1build1 (jaunty) but the Launchpad overview at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-aiptek gives the version as xserver-....build2 so a slight regression there.
