I'm aware that the solution isn't obvious at this time.  The more
generic question is how to deal with user files across all filesystems,
not just in /home/$USER .  While I use ~/ram as a time- and HDD-saver,
other use cases might include thumb drives, external HDDs, and other
"less-directly-connected" filesystems.

If moving files across filesystems were an option (I'm aware it's not),
it would remove those pesky .Trash-$UID folders that pop up on every
filesystem, as well as make the trash:/// method a bit more secure (e.g.
for less-aware users who don't realize or understand the significance of
separate filesystems).
