Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio
I updated from Intrepid to the Jaunty beta 1 (Kubuntu) and the sound (that always worked perfectly in earlier versions, btw) stopped working. It stopped working _completely_, so not even a startup sound. Chipset: $ lspci | grep Audio 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) Version: $ uname -a Linux THW 2.6.28-11-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 27 10:01:17 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux It probably has to do with Pulseaudio: a pop-up at the startup says that it failed to load PulseAudio. When I start Pulseaudio: (Note: Changed a few warnings to English, so some warnings might be a bit off, but the essence is the same) $ pulseaudio I: caps.c: Limited capabilities successfully to CAP_SYS_NICE. I: caps.c: Dropping root privileges. I: caps.c: Limited capabilities successfully to CAP_SYS_NICE. E: alsa-util.c: Error opening PCM device hw:0: Device is busy E: module.c: Failed to load module "module-alsa-sink" (argument: "device_id=0"): initialization failed. E: module.c: Failed to open module "module-console-kit": file not found E: main.c: Module load failed. E: main.c: Failed to initialize daemon. And the verbose output of pulseaudio is: $ pulseaudio -v I: caps.c: Limited capabilities successfully to CAP_SYS_NICE. I: caps.c: Dropping root privileges.
