Hi I have the same problem.
I have been had this problem since I updated my system to Ubuntu Hardy Heron. Recently I am using Ubuntu Jaunty and I am having the same problem. The computer give all normal messages of the shutdown process but it doesn't power off. When I was using Ubuntu 8.04 LTS I didn't have this problem.
