I've reported the same problem. I'm on a dual-boot P4 desktop and, interestingly, connected via a D-Link router (DSL-G624T). While under my Ubuntu 8.04 LinkedIn is so sluggish and almost unusable, under WindowsXP all seems to work smoothly. I haven't tried with any other browser than Firefox 3.0.
