Thank you gedakc for your interest and explanation which makes some sense. Ubuntu 7.10 used to automatically mount available partitions, which was reflected in displayed Gparted information as you explain. Other Linux distribution LiveCDs, particularly PartEdMagic improved on this, but Hardy 'lost it'. JauntyBeta seems to have partially regained it, allowing Linux Partition identifiers to be directly related to Windows Labels, although Mount Point data can provide a useful bonus. So what, you may say, but in a prior LiveCD session it can aid pre-installation preparation and understanding, whilst the 'read-only' mode of subsequent to installation-added Gparted can provide ongoing usage information. If Jaunty actual release is as good as JauntyBeta on this matter, then I think that this long outstanding report can be closed !
