Public bug reported: Binary package hint: computer-janitor
computer-janitor does not say what it will do with selected items. For example: .dpkg-old files. The top part of the form says "This applications helps you to find and remove software...", but the first column in the listbox says "Remove/fix?". .dpkg-old files get described as "A file on disk". When I select a ".dpkg-old" the tool annotation says "File was left on the disk by dpkg as part of its configuration file handling. If you computer works fine, you can remove it. You may want to compare it with the actual configuration file (the one without the .dpkg-old or .dpkg-new suffix). If unsure, don't remove the file." It doesn't take a genius to realise that the .dpkg-old files will be removed by computer-janitor, but I think it should be explicit that it will remove the file from the filesystem. Perhaps the text should read "File was left on the disk by dpkg as part of its configuration file handling. If you computer works fine, you can remove it. You may want to compare it with the actual configuration file (the one without the .dpkg-old or .dpkg-new suffix. If unsure, don't remove the file. Selecting this file and pressing "Cleanup" will automatically remove it from your computer." k...@stumpy:~$ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu jaunty (development branch) Release: 9.04 k...@stumpy:~$ apt-cache policy computer-janitor computer-janitor: Installed: 1.12.1-0ubuntu2 Candidate: 1.12.1-0ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1.12.1-0ubuntu2 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: computer-janitor (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- computer-janitor actions are unclear https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/355543 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
