My X61 Thinkpad (Ubuntu 8.10) shuts down after 30 to 60 minutes of watching a Flash-intensive web site (e.g. episodes on thedailyshow.com). In /var/log/messages I see:
Apr 5 11:34:23 x61 kernel: [101330.895345] ACPI: Critical trip point $ uname -a Linux x61 2.6.27-11-generic #1 SMP Thu Jan 29 19:24:39 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux I found that the fan never goes above 3000rpm. Doing rmmod thinkpad_acpi && modprobe thinkpad_acpi fan_control=1 echo "level 7" > /proc/acpi/ibm/fan got the fan up to 3900rpm and kept the CPU temperature around 65 to 70C. So there's a problem with the CPU fan control in a stock Ubuntu 8.10 install. ** Attachment added: "lspci.txt" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/24833993/lspci.txt -- acpi fan control does not work, laptop overheats https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/258454 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
