Erg,, nevermind. :/ nice values are correct... everyone gets to be an
idiot sometime. Stupid ambiguous PR/NI column labels in top.

Although, system performance could be improved by giving the X server a
higher priority than apps launched by the window manager to make it
easier to kill applications that have gone into a race condition. Also
the kernel clock speed should be  compiled with options to be preemptive
with a timer frequency set to 1000 instead of 250 for desktop kernel
releases.
