After much tinkering around with updating packages (using update-
manager) and doing [dpkg-reconfigure -a] to reconfigure my system, my
system will shutdown and reboot properly now. I disabled the nVidia
driver and changed to the generic kernel, instead of using the realtime
kernel, which fixed the problem temporarily. But when I got the system
fully updated, I installed envyng and was able to use that to re-install
nVidia drivers. I am still using the Ubuntu generic kernel. I haven't
tried re-instating the rt kernel yet. I am using Jaunty, all updates
current as of April 5th. My system is behaving properly for now.
