I took the one usb stick that successully booted to a Desktop and cloned it to another 8gb usb stick using dd the result is that i have two usb sticks that can boot jaunty 9.04 so this should put to sleep any thought i had a defective stick. using Linux ubuntu 2.6.28-11-generic #37-Ubuntu SMP Mon Mar 23 16:40:00 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux is the one that works, any iso's i have tried after that did not work, I am including the /var/log/dpkg.log for this stick....
