dtrichar, what distribution are you using? Here, there is no /usr/lib/gnome.wm and no /usr/bin/gnome.wm, but there is /usr/bin/gnome- wm which looks similar to what you posted. However, doing what you propose didn't solve the problem -- the delay is still there.
