I think it's more of something like this: Before: Banshee completely doesn't work with the MTP device (crash) After: Banshee works with it, but doesn't have sync support.
Hence, no regressions. The whole bug is because Banshee was incompatible with libmtp8, which broke binary compatibility from libmtp7, and hence segfaulted when Banshee tried to use the interface from libmtp7 with Intrepid's libmtp8.
