** Description changed:

My Sony Walkman NWZ-S618F (a USB mass storage device) worked fine in
Gutsy. Under fully updated Hardy as of Mar 30, 2008, the walkman will no
longer mount. No UI notification of failure. dmesg is attached. Let me
know if there's other information I can provide.

Expected: Device mounts as a USB mass storage device

What Happened: Nothing. (Device started charging itself as if
connected). Lots of notices (attached) on dmesg.
+
+ SRU justification: Many large storage devices are not properly handled
+ by hardy's desktop stack (automounting, gparted, etc.). As these become
+ increasingly popular, this becomes more and more of a problem.
+
+ The fix for this was applied upstream half a year ago, and in Ubuntu
+ Intrepid 10 months ago. It was confirmed to fix the problem without
+ introducing regressions. The fix was also confirmed to fix the problem
+ in Hardy by manually applying the patch.
