Maybe I didn't mention this, but the 2G of RAM "fix" also works with the radeonhd driver. After trying the 1.2.5 driver from your PPA, i took out 2G of RAM (leaving 2G), and it worked. I took the Xorg.0.log from this boot, and compared it to the Xorg.0.log from my previous post using openoffice writer, so the differences are clearly marked. Maybe this is old news, but i found it weird that taking out RAM changes how the driver goes about configuring the screen outputs.
