I am not sure if what I have is this bug or something similar. Every
now and then (seen on gNewSense DeltaH (essentially Hardy) and Kubuntu
Hardy) printing will quit working, with the job staying "forever" in the
queue, processing, and the printer doing nothing. I have twice so far
gotten it to start again (on gNewSense) by the following procedure.
Please note that I have not had time to test removal of various pieces,
as this seems to be a somewhat random failure, and I do not know how to
cause the problem in the first place.

1. sudo rm /etc/cups/cupsd.conf /etc/cups/printers.conf ### ***should be cp
*.old or the like for safety***
2. sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys restart
3. sudo aptitude reinstall cupsys #Will produce errors; ignore
4. sudo cp /etc/cups/cupsd.conf.default /etc/cups/cupsd.conf
5. sudo cp /etc/cups/printers.conf.O /etc/cups/printers.conf
6. sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys restart
# If your files are like mine, your printer will appear to be disconnected.
Then:
7. Power cycle printer
8. Print a test document (perhaps that one you wanted to print in the first
place)

Good luck! No guaranties of course.:)
