I compiled myself kernel2 2.6.17-13 (ubuntu-patched) and 2.6.19.1 and
they both have the same problem:

I receive an error message in /var/log/kern.log
  acpi_cpufreq: Unknown symbol cpu_online_map

I cannot use any cpu frequency scaling feature.

I tride the p4-clockmod, smp, but nothing worked.

The generic kernel works ok, but i still haven't find what is the
distictive difference that makes it work.
