I have a Toshiba Satalite L40 as well. The specific model is L40-14N.

acpid seems to be the curlpit. It also seems that repeted starting and
stopping will stop the problem (until reboot) though this may be a
coincidence.

Attached is a log of acpid running for 10 seconds with the -d switch on.
it seems the acpid has a virtually unlimited number of hotkey events to
process once it's on; matching the asus-wireless-on and asus-wireless-2
rules.

These results are while running jaunty
