Was there every any resolution on this problem? I'm running a stock Intrepid installed updated from the standard repos and I have exactly the same problems with my cheapo radeon card from dell (lspci reports: RV370 [Radeon X300SE]). Everything's fine until I enable compiz (normal or extra visual effects). There are some subtle problems as well with GL/pygame apps, as well, but they seem closely related.. Thanks!
