I installed 9.04 AMD64 final. Almost the same thing happens. My external USB drives are not mounted. However, when I added a Sandisk Microdrive with 4GB SDHC card, something woke up and all drives were suddenly mounted and recognised again. The same thing happens when I turn off - on one of my USB drives. All the drives suddenly get mounted.
Maybe there is some initialization that does not go as it should on my desktop. The weird thing is, my EEEPC has no problems at all. Anyway, I can live very well with this situation.
