This problem seems to be fixed with Kernel 2.6.30-rc3 and the packages from the x update repository (-intel 2.7.0 and so on). Since this changes couldn't be backported to Jaunty I guess this could be closed. The default Exa works fine and all the needed changes will be in Karmic.
