I've test this on Ubuntu 9.04: the workaround is still necessary.
Infact, if I don't use file "/etc/modprobe.d/pinnacle-pctv" I can watch
tv but i cannot hear the audio, only white noise.

I have rename "/etc/modprobe.d/pinnacle-pctv" in "/etc/modprobe.d
/pinnacle-pctv.conf", so I don't see any warning using modprobe...
