I have the same problem with wireless usb adapter Netgear WG111v1. When
it tries to load the p54usb module, it utilizes the cpu to 100% (I see
in process list modprobe taking 100%). I can not even kill this process.
The message in /var/log/messages is:

usb 1-3: firmware: request isl3890usb

Looking here: http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/p54/devices I
see it should be isl3886.

So, the p84usb module selects a wrong firmware.

Is there a way to put an option to the miodule to use another firmware?
