The video driver theory seems very plausible. I am also having similar issues with Broadcom STA driver and ndiswrapper. The connection can be successfully established and stays up as long as there is some activity. The connection goes down after a certain period of inactivity regardless of the driver (b43, wl, ndiswrapper). Downgrading to 8.10 seems the only option as the moment. Both b43 and wl worked flawlessly for me in 8.10.
