I filed a bug using the ubuntu bug xorg command right after rebooting my machine. the reason for filing this report was to clearly state what all I've tried as the bug report filed that way didn't allow me to include information about Randomly means exactly that. As stated before, when the computer is left idle x freezes randomly so far at time periods ranging from 3-40 minutes. It doesn't matter what applications are running or what my power or screen saver settings are. Doesn't matter if compiz is on or off, doesn't matter if I'm in fail safe mode or not, doesn't matter if the drive is formatted with ext3 or 4. I can tell it's only x freezing because file transfers continue, sound continues on movies or audio players, game sound continues, the light on my keyboard receiver continues to show that the machine is reciving signals from the keyboard, wifi indicator lights on my wifi card still blink showing a signal being processed. it's just my graphics that take a dive. It does it every time without fail if the machine is left idle for random periods of time varying from 3-40minutes. It only does it in Jaunty Jackalope.
I reinstalled Intrepid Ibex last night on my other hard drive and it runs great, no problems. I have an ATI radeon 1650x GPU that is no longer supported by ATI and has to use the new open source driver in Jaunty. I think this is the problem, as this is the only thing that has changed in my set up, and the open source drivers have caused me massive head aches in the past. Hopefully that is more helpful. Sorry to be so vague, but I just don't know that much about computer graphics hardware and software, and can see no other likely variables in this situation. Here's the rest of the stuff you guys asked for. i just restarted my computer again after x froze 20 minutes ago, so this should hopefully include some clues: -- Jaunty Crashes Randomly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/368410 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
