hmm.. ichudov, you're right - it seems that when I try to change my
desktop effects back to normal or extra, I get the message "desktop
effects could not be enabled" and yes, of course, I do have this same
AWN problem. I will note that I have another computer with which I do
not have this problem at all and have also updated to Ubuntu 9.04 on
that one. Also, when I turn on the compiz fusion icon and select "reload
window manager" the awn problem is solved, as is the Desktop Effects
issue. I have not, however, yet been able to fix this problem without
manually reloading windows manager. I'll have to see what is different
between my home computer (problem-free) and my laptop which has this
problem.
