I followed fuhrysteve's command and it worked for me. Also crashing was galeon. I've attached the gdb output. Turns out the complete resolution was to search for xulrunner in synaptic and remove ALL packages that made reference to version 1.8.x, even the dev ones. After that action, FF3.5 and galeon returned to normal behavior.
