Little update: after re-installing intrepid on a free partition (and sharing /home between installs) I ran into bug 372487 (just reporting here to emphasize that downgrading the OS is usually not a good idea).
The good news: with KDE 4.2 from intrepid backports the system is back to a usable state. (Just took some ours of downloading both for the install and to repair the damage of bug 372487). Also, if anyone provides packages for KDE 4.3 in jaunty I can immediately test the effect on an affected machine, kind of in a sandbox, i.e., without the risk of making the machine unusable again. Perhaps, using two bootable partitions and upgrading only one at a time is a fair strategy to reduce risks... some redundancy of that kind seems necessary these days ... -- (Needs UXA) painting artifacts after qt4.5 upgrade on intel chipset https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/338669 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
