Pity to hear about your problem 'cause avidemux is great. Here, sound works great with all audio outputs except OSS (no init) and SDL. SDL failure is similar to yours except that drop is hiss and clock is 1 second. Not all the way through, though, there are nice passages. avidemux and system audio are out of the box (no other setting change).
