I checked the mesa changelogs again and discovered that the fix that I had in mind (the one that fixed the problem introduced at the beginning of April but didn’t help me) appeared in mesa 7.4-0ubuntu3. This is also the mesa version that is currently installed on my machine.
However, my chip seems to be an RS480.
